The higher you can point, the easier it is to stop at a mark or mooring but I'd like to try improving going to windward with my boat under main alone. Even a few degrees will improve control to pick up a mooring or as you mention, a MOB.

I've seen some J boats that are particularly good at this doing demonstrations in our local harbors.
