New designs will evolve with todays technology and science. Fad designs will come and go quickly and we'll likely see some of the features of a boat like the Valiant go in and out of design vogue in the future.
Traditional is good, but also means dated technology. And then there is the market. What "we" see as the right sailboat, may not be what the market sees(despite our wisdom here )
The Valiants will be around for a long, long time. They're pretty, well built and nice to sail and own.
But I doubt we'll ever go back to styles built 30, 40, 70 years ago, in a big way(some will always be built). I think as interesting as new designs today are, what will happen with boats built over the past decades in the future, will be just as interesting.
Some designs will adapt to nearly anything in the foreseeable future I think, but some, I'm not so sure.
