The line goes aft of the cam cleat and then back to it.
If I remember right (and damn, I was just there yesterday) the block is attached to the stanchion, hence the reason it is so far aft... if the block was "abeam" of the cam cleat, then the line would only wrap about 90. Heck locating the block just forward of the cleat would mean it would wrap less than 90, but then you'd be pulling on the furling line at an odd angle. (relative to one's position in the cockpit to control the jib sheet as it feeds out.)
Also all of this takes place under and aft of the life line "gate," so there is a relatively wide area where nothing exists to allow for egress and exit to the boat.
Of course there is nothing saying that all this is "correct."
I could reroute the furling lines any darn way I want... to get the end result I want. I just need to get over the issue of "well that's the way they designed it."
I drilled two holes in the boat yesterday... and after my initial trepidation, I realized, heck just plan for it and go for it.
