caused the sail to set poorly and I kept destroying the blocks at the reef tacks. I went back to one line for the reef out haul and a snap shackle at the gooseneck. One each for the 1st and 2nd reefs. My old boat had lines for both the out haul and reef tacks but as she was equipped with triple reef points it turned out to be one hell of a lot of line hanging on the sail all the time. I cruised that way for three years but came to realize that for what it gave me, it just wasn't worth it. I really like how I have it set up now. The reef out haul attaches to the boom with a bowland around the boom directly under the reef point. The line goes straight up through the eye on the reef and back to the end of the boom. It goes around a block and continues toward the gooseneck where it makes a 90 degree turn towards a turning block mounted to a bracket on the mast a few inches above the deck. From that block it goes back up the mast through a cam lock to another turning block just above my head that is "tied" to a cleat and back down with a tail of about 4 feet. What this allows me to do is use all of my considerable weight to pull down on the out haul or put the line on a mast mounted winch. I drop the main low enough to connect the 1st reef tack to the snap shackle at the gooseneck and then pull the main back up. I then pull down on the out haul and that's it.
