Photo of sorts of my single line on a prior boat...
In Response To: P=34, E=11.5 ()

Heh. Pic is before I had the sail cleaned about ten years ago...my old friend Smitty (who now is in a home with Alzheimer's) on his last sail as it turned out for a week down the river and back. Beginning at about 44 he spent 6 1/2 years cruising his 32'er and lived aboard for most of the remainder of his life. But I digress.

This is my old Freedom 25 with rotating wing mast.

You can see the two reef lines coming up from the aft end of the boom where they are simply tied on. They go up through the leech cringles..appparently no block there (the memory fades...), back down to the end boom sheaves and forward inside the boom to exit at the fore end of the boom around two sheaves built into the boom. Both reef lines then go up to ball bearing luff blocks on a 1/4" rod hook with eye thing. You can see the hook part showing through in the first reef, the block is on the other side where the block is in the eye part.

After exiting the luff blocks the lines come back down to the boom fore end.

The red second reef line is directed through the boom to the port side, then down to a turning block and aft to a line clutch. The green first reef line is directed down to the turning block and aft to rope clutch on the starboard side. Both sides have cabin top winches just forward of the rope clutches so you can use them for any line running aft.

The halyard is there to slack, the reef lines are there to take up.

I can't remember the hoist or foot lengths it was a loose footed main with full battens.

I would have to say that two sheaves aft end of boom and two front of the boom help to make this work.
