My set up is essentially the same as yours. Feel that a countervailing force to the clew is needed or you'll risk pulling the slugs off the sail or the track off the mast. With the padeyes on side of the mast and blocks mounted on pad eyes on the other, get a downward and forward pull to counteract the clew. If I let the main stream so the wind is equal on both sides, can pull in the clew pretty much by hand especially if I take some tension the topping lift. Often reef with the main boom eased but not all the way so it doesn't flog. This takes some effort on the winch but comes in pretty quick and sail is providing some drive all the time. Don't see the need for blocks on the clew unless you've got a way bigger main than my 35 footer has.
