Now most new boats seem to be big coastal sailing boats that you can also take offshore easily. They all have the increased volume below for state rooms that you rarely saw on older boats unless twice as long.
Boats are faster today too. But that's pretty relative term to me. I'm not all that impressed with how much faster that is except on performance oriented boats that are indeed quite a real improvement in performance.
But as for bluewater/offshore type boats(the way I think of them), they don't have the needs of staterooms, large saloons for seating big groups such as you'll find on a charter boat. Seems the old idea of snug seaberths and good working sailing layouts would still be preferred if offshore/bluewater, was the intended use.
I like most of the new boat designs. I think some of the faster groups, like Jboats are a real improvement all around.
The other types with big acommodations are a real improvement in living space afloat, if you're looking for that.
