(though not for any religious purpose) They're mostly over the top, especially the cathedrals in Europe I've seen. But there's still fascination in their history, especially for me as a design builder. It's the details that draw me in close though. I can spend an hour inspecting a few old doorways or windows or some other detail. I always see the people that built them. I think I can see the hands from the past in them, because I know a bit of what transpired, even centuries ago.

This shutter outside of Venice was fascinating to me. Wood is scarce in Italy(we take our nearly unlimited resource for granted here) and more so on islands like this. A craftsmen can stretch his resources like one did here long ago.
