Hey Dave,
congrats on making it to Naptown, nice shot... Looks like the Atlantic did between the Gulf Stream and Bermuda the past few days... (grin)
Arrived here in St George's early this morning, one of the first of about 20 boats to do so today... Herb Hilgenberg has seemed rather concerned about the possibility the formation of another tropical low to the SE of our track to Antigua, so we decided to bail out here and wait to see what happens... I'm starting to think it might have been a mistake, looks like we could be sitting here a LONG timer, they're already talking about the chance of ANOTHER big low developing the following week...
Great sailing the first couple of days, piece of cake Stream crossing... We went east out of the Chesapeake, rather than south to Hatteras like most of the 1500 fleet, and we were doing pretty well in comparison to them before we chickened out...
Traveling with these rallies has been amusing, but between obtaining the weather, and listening to all the fleet check-ins and chatter, you can easily spend half the day on the freakin' RADIO! I'll take being out there by myself, anytime (grin)...
Pretty shocking, how many of the boats that diverted here had NO CHARTS for Bermuda... UFB, anyone who starts a passage to the Caribbean from the East coast without a Bermuda chart should just be shot...
best regards,
Jon
