I first met him in Flores (Azores) in 2002. He and two guys he had recruited were headed around the world, south of all the great Capes. Neither of the crew had done a lot of sailing, and one was prone to seasickness. We gave him some Sturgeron to try, knowing he could get more in Cape Town if it proved to work. The three of them made it around the world just fine, and Eric sent me a postcard from South Georgia, a destination high on my bucket list. I now kick myself for not signing on when Eric was looking for crew to the Antarctic peninsula in 2004. I had just started a new job and thought my new employer might not appreciate the sudden request for a brief leave . In the past 10 years Eric's been around the world a couple times, done the Northwest passage, you name it ... And talks of it all with utmost humility and understatement - 'we might pop down to the Sandwich Islands if the ice isn't too bad'. He is the Bill Tillman of our era. He swings by Maine from time to time coming and going. Eric is a gentleman and my hat's off to you for getting out with him. I'll make some time to watch your videos this weekend.
