I doubt a wheel pilot would work very well David.

That's just too many turns for a wheel pilot I would think. It would burn up amps spinning to keep a heading, especially off the wind. My boat is similar in size and I'm pleased after 11 seasons with the ST4000 WP, but it's just over 2 revolutions from lock to lock. For the type of coastal sailing I do, it's all I need and likely steers the boat 90% of the time.
