That's exactly what I did, Jim.
In Response To: A question ()

After losing both engines in my trawler off Sandy Hook in rough seas and not having any sails to set, I need a permanent and effective fix. I removed the old Racor 900 filters and mounted them on the opposite side of my engine room, and installed it's own pickup tube about a half inch from the bottom of my 800 gallon fuel tank. I run this homemade fuel polishing system for a couple of days before we leave on a trip if we've been sitting in one spot for awhile (which we seem to do all the time) and continually while underway.

For my primary filters, I installed two sets of Filter Bosses, one for each engine. Their pickup tubes are about 3" above the bottom of the tank. There is an alarm in the helm station for each system, and if a filter starts to clog I simply flip a switch and keep on truckin'.

So far, my fuel polishing system has picked up about five gallons of water and a lot of crud, while the Filter Bosses have never clogged and the vacuum gauges remain steady, so I guess it's working.
