As Mark Cole pointed out, there are a lot of units based on the Ubiquity hardware. Ours is based on (I think I remember the model...) the Bullet HP. The Rogue Wave folks put together a nice package of hardware and software but you pay for it.
We have been completely satisfied with the results. The antenna is mounted on a dodger handrail (vulnerable to snagging by preventer, so far so good). In Mazatlan, we are seeing 28 WIFI routers. At marinas, we often "shop" for the antenna with the best throughput, not necessarily the strongest signal.
We have the ethernet output of the WIFI antenna plugged into a Mac laptop running Mac OS 10.6x. It is set up for internet sharing on "GratitudeNet". We simply log into it using the other devices on board... other computers, iPhones, iPad, etc. Since the host Mac is used for Winlink and other functions too, it is on most of the time anyway. We have an Airport Express router but only use that to get sound from our movie computer to the stereo now!
