John is right. If you are staying in G-Town a good antenna will work. Other islands are hit and miss. Many places like Thompson Bay on Long Island, Staniel Cay YC, and Sampson Cay work very well when you take your laptop ashore and use it there. It's more consistent that way. There is usually a charge. We've been roaming the Bahamas for years (6 months/yr) and are trying an unlocked AT&T Aircard this year. That requires buying a SIM card from BTC and then paying $40/month for unlimited service. It's not 3G, but not bad. It works anywhere you have a good cell signal. So far, it's working out pretty good. We spend most of our time in the remote areas, and most have cell service. You won't get this in Conception or the top of the Jumentos, but once you're closer down to Duncantown, you've got it. It worked at Shroud and all the way down the Exuma chain. I was surprised at the coverage area. We also get WX and e-mail via a SatPhone in the extreme remote islands.
Good sailing, Jan,
Steve
