That is the stock alternator on the D2-40
In Response To: 115 amp ()

It certainly keeps my batteries charged up. I selected the D2-40 for a number of reasons including:

Physical size - it has the smallest vertical dimension of any of the engines I was considering. That was a big factor since I wanted the engine under the floor boards.

Cost - Volvo turned out to be the cheapest engine for the hp here in Maine.

Transmission options (gear ratio) - I wanted to keep my existing running gear (shaft and prop) and the volvo gear ratio worked out well.

I also wanted a 3,000 rpm engine. The betas I looked at were all 3600 rpm engines, which would have required a new prop.

My existing exhaust system was 2.5", so I made up a 1.75" to 2" adapter from fiberglass and put it between the engine and the waterlift. I put a 2" check valve in the exhaust line after the waterlift, but modified the aft outlet on the check valve to accept 2.5" hose. That way I didn't have to change the primary exhaust hose run or the thru-hull fitting.

I like the D2-40 so far. It pushes my 32'9" boat at 6 knots at about 1800 rpms (2.63:1 transmission and 13.34" pitch by 20" diametr 3 blade prop with 0.55 DAR. I can get to just over 9 knots at full throttle (~3150 rpms)
