Third boat has nylon and internal track- don't work nearly as well.

What kind of slides does your mainsail use?
UV eventually gets plastic slugs. Metal ones slide easier....
For a fully battened sail

Had bronze track and bronze slides on one boat, slid beautifully.
Yeah. Truth is, I'm too lazy to tape. Varnish gums them up for a few hoists, then they're fine.

Gene - Were the slides that broke at the full length battens?
Yes, at the battens and down low
Did they break at the conjunction of the bale and the base?
Use straps that allow the batten to rotate without torquing the sail slides.
I replaced all of my slides
