To me this demonstrates that when it comes to whales it doesn't matter what kind of boat you are on. Luck is a far better predictor of the outcome. A few years ago a J/120 sunk from a whale collision in the same area and there are pages and pages of speculation about the strength of that boats rudder, hull, etc. Well, now you have serious "bluewater" cruiser. Same outcome.

Also, given it was rudder damage it is pretty safe to say - whale hit boat, not the other way around.
