What is even more interesting to me is I just read an article about gaff rigged boats in GOB magazine, and found out you have to haul two halyards to bring up a gaff rigged sail.... and this guy has two. Between you and I, I'd bet he has that tiller lashed off. (I think they are called the gaff halyard and the throat halyard... )
