A compact RIB has a rigid fiberglass hull with a wooden transom that folds down for storage. The whole thing fits in a bag about 7.5' x 3.5' x 8" and weighs about 88 lbs for my compact rib 310. It will plane. Mine planes with one person aboard with a 4 hp engine. It takes about 8 hp to plane it with two people and stuff on board. The major differences between a compast rib and a regular rib are that the compact rib is lighter, fits in a smaller package and gives a wetter ride than a regular rib. The weight difference between a compact rib and an inflatable floor boat is small (say 10 lbs or so). While the compact rib reqyuires more space to stow than an inflatable floor boat, it is much easier to inflate with only a regular dinghy pump
