I thought about starting a new website last week, obnoxiouscaptain.com

We had just returned to our mooring in Northeast Harbor to enjoy the early evening with a glass of wine in the cockpit. Settling in the cockpit, the J42 off my port bow started his engine to charge. Soon after, a green wedding cake like motorboat started his generator off my starboard bow.

After some grumbling, I nixed the website idea. If you come to a popular place like Northeast, you've got to expect some noise. And what good would it do, besides, I'd probably be cited on obnoxiouscaptain.com for a barking dog infraction.

After about an hour of the drone of two engines, both boats finally stopped charging and it was like an internal combustion fog lifted. Soon the aroma of a Newark bustop cleared around us, and we were now allowed to enjoy this magnificent harbor. It really is a destination harbor and it's been 3 years since our last visit. We come to Northeast to furl sails for a few days and just relax, hike, explore,..., and I've been curious to see the new facilities I'd heard quite a bit about.

I'm impressed. The new harbor master and greeting buildings(in the background in this photo taken from the hike to Thuya Gardens) are nice and the grounds are like a college campus(why not?). The new facilities like showers are wonderful. The old ones were quaint, but I don't miss them, nor scrounging up quarters for a family of four. There's even a family bathing room in the building, a new lounge, etc.

I was told included in the mooring fees is a launch service but it wasn't running in mid September(not a big thing for us but a nice thing for many). A big plus for me, two water docks out in the harbor. These are the best things! I watered up there hassle free, no waiting for the busy public dock.

We used to spend another 5 bucks just in quarters for the showers, not to mention paying for wifi. With these now included, it's cheaper for us at 40/ mooring than the old rate of 35. It looks like it's working well, we saw most all moorings filling in two mid week days in in September.

I also enjoyed a dock cart by the ice machine at the waters edge. I was loading up 40 pounds for Xmas and a couple gift blocks, 10 pounds for the J42 and 20 for the green wedding cake. Then I saw they had both left the harbor and were charging their way to a new harbor, so I put 30 pounds back.
