It's only a one night race, usually from noon to sunset the next day. Everyone wants to party when you get to Ensenada so they could have been all asleep catching up for an all nighter after arriving in Mexico.

Sad but just dumb. The admiral and I have never not had a night watch awake for more than 30 minutes (ever). I have a 'Salton' egg timer. If I get really tired I set it at 20 minutes and that's with radar, an alarm zone, AIS and a chartplotter with an approach waypoint alarm.

It appears that in this incident it was just irresponsibility.
