Hauled the boat yesterday, after surviving Sandy and the nor'easter in the slip. Picked up in slings by the crane. After pressure washing, swung over the cradle, when the boat dropped 4 feet into the cradle (one witness said 6'). Crane had a hydraulic failure and the brake slipped.
Cradle is welded steel, 6 poppets, intended for a 35' boat. Four of the poppets were bent, broken or otherwise damaged - photo shows the port fwd poppet. Weld to the pad backing plate broke and the threaded rod and it's support pipe are both bent. Cradle belongs to the yard.
There's too much damage to the cradle to show it all. In addition, the trailer under the cradle was also damaged. The cross bar under the cradle was bent at the port end, and there's now a slight bend in the side rail of the trailer itself.
Damage to the boat seems minimal and cosmetic.
This is port side in way of the midship poppet.
This is stbd side at the aft poppet.
Also a small nick on the lower front of the keel, not worth a photo.
Tartan makes a tough boat - this was the 'drop' test!
And, thanks for help with the 'multi-photo' post!
