Planning a new radar installation:
The scanner goes on the mast above the spreaders. The cable goes inside the mast, and exits the mast above the deck, then through a waterproof fitting into the boat. The mast is deck stepped; there is a conduit through the step but it isn't large enough to accommodate all of the electrical wires, the AWI, the VHF and the radar. The existing radar installation has a terminal strip inside the boat that connects each strand of the cable to its counterpart that is hard-wired to the display.
I am pretty tired of the terminal strip connection. The small wire endings don't survive the disconnection/re-connection and winter storage very well. Plus my eyesight is deteriorating with age.
What do others do? I imagine there is a multi-pin plug that will work, but is there one that is sufficiently waterproof to connect above the deck? Would I do better to bring a multi-pin fitting through a bigger hole into the boat? Any suggestions welcome.
