So, that's useful knowledge as well.... hadn't actually expected cell phones to work but I suppose anything within line of site of a cell tower should work.
It is truly amazing the changes in nav and comm tech in the past 10 years. I'm really impressed with DSC and AIS available even to someone in a boat as small as the CD22. Makes venturing out much safer, as you never really can anticipate every eventuality. I remember sailing the International One Design on a beautiful afternoon off Marblehead one summer and suddenly found myself in a thick fog bank. I didn't even have a compass aboard and had to follow someone back into the sunny harbor. That was an eye opener!
Planning on sailing from Brooklin up Eggwemogin Reach to Buck's Harbor, then to Dark Harbor and then to Muscongus Bay next September. Should be spectacular.
