We visited the harbor on my way home from a trip to Nova Scotia. There was a mooring the harbormaster pointed us to so we grabbed it and headed ashore. I wasn't too sure where to land and picked a spot at a local wharf and headed into town for a few hours. Coming back the woman who owned the land proceeded to try and rip a new one for me..........she was not at all happy with us trying up a dinghy to her private wharf (thought naturally it wasn't marked as such). We apologized profusely and basically she didn't accept it and sent us off with a scowl.........not your typical Maine friendliness.
So....ironically after coming back home to Portsmouth, NH I was sitting out on our mooring and noticed a sailing dinghy just waffling about with no wind and with our strong currents, getting dragged backward. My son and I hoped in the inflatable, fired up the engine, and proceeded to give these folks a push to where they wanted to go. Ensuing conversation proved that it was their elderly mother's home that we had encroached upon up in Cutler. They knowingly apologized for her behavior and rather sheepishly thanked me for the push.
