I would take a good look at the Lehr

They just got a very favorable review in Practical Sailor. They use many of the same parts as Mercury or Yamaha (IIRC) so quality and service/parts may not be too much of an issue.

I am planning to go overseas where propane is different than the US, which I don't think Lehr has addressed yet, so I am probably going with the Torqeedo instead. I will probably build a small waterproof lock box bolted to the transom to store the upper part of the engine that can't be easily locked, and a battery charging port on the mothership.

Personally I have had it with ethanol, carburetors, and plugged jets. May the agriculture lobby in the US die a quick and painful death. If I had to use gas I would probably look for a used Yamaha 8 HP 2 stroke.
