We purchased a Tohatsu 9.8 in Panama
In Response To: Once you leave the US ()

While on the hard at Shelter Bay Marina in Panama our 15 hp 2 stroke Yamaha was stolen. We could have replaced it with the same but although I liked the 15 hp the weight was more than I could handle with one arm. We decided to get a Tohatsu 9.8 instead. After the break in period I decided to go with a 75 to one mix. It won't last as long but it doesn't smoke much at that ratio. The Yamaha was 100 to one but only because of environmentsl reasons. I'm sure it would have liked 50 to one instead.

I really like the Tohatsu and the power is enough to easily get our heavy 9.5ft AB up on a plane with 2 people. Can't carry groceries or gear but if we had a lighter inflatable there would be no problem. Ours is 150lb and the light weight one is more like 110. That 40lbs would really make a difference. Only observation on the Tohatsu versus the Yamaha is that the Tohatsu is just not a robust as the Yamaha and needs to be handled with more care. Of course it is 22 lbs lighter than the Yamaha at only 47 lbs. No problem carrying up a boarding ladder with 1 arm.

I'd purchase another one.
