We now have two Torqeedo batteries, which extends our range under power to 12-14 miles. We charge the battery when we are underway under power. The charger draws 4 amps at 12 volts and takes about 14-16 hours to recharge a completely discharged battery. Recharge time after a one mile run with two people in the RIB is typically 2-3 hours.
Based on observations from the year I have had the Torqeedo, I can say that the power required to push a rib-lite 310 with two people and gear in it one mile (round trip from the dinghy dock to my mooring) at 3 knots ranges from 60 to 80 watt hours, or approximately 12-16% of battery capacity on a Torqeedo 1003 with the 520 watt-hour battery. With the standard charger, which puts out 48 watts, recharge time is around 2 hours after a 1 mile run or about 9 amp-hours from the house bank. If you slow down to 2.5 knots the power draw drops by about 35-40%.
When fully charged, my 1003 with the 520 watt-hr battery will push my dinghy 8-9 miles at 3-3.5 knots on a charge.
I bought a larger capacity battery (520 watt-hr versus the 400 watt-hr battery I got with the motor. With the larger battery I can run about 6-7 miles at 3.4-3.5 knots with two people in my compact rib 310. The motor will push the dink up to about 4.5 knots with the same load, but the range is only about 2-2.5 miles then. For just running back and forth from the dock to a mooring the Torqeedo is fine.
