Last year I had Hinkley in Stuart install a Lasdrop Gen3 dripless. I selected that one on the advise of Evans Starzinger who switched from a PYI. Anyway, Lasdrop included the wrong size alignment piece that goes on the end of the shaft to spread the rubber seal. The one they included was 1/4" too big so Hinckley didn't use it. By not using the alignment tool they rolled the rubber and it sprayed water. Not good for a dripless. I brought it back to Hinckley as I was still in Stuart and they spent a couple of hours on it. It seemed to be ok but I was in need to move on and did. We went to the Abacos and then up to Annapolis where the boat is now. While in transit the DRIPLESS started to spray again.
Now in Annapolis I had Port Annapolis Marina install a new rubber seal ($12.00 for the seal. Lasdrop sent me a new one for free but it was lost by Port Annapolis and I ordered a new one.). I just received the invoice today, $1,367.25. The hours they spent on removing the new shaft, reinstalling the new $12.00 rubber piece and putting it back together was a total of 13.75 hours. WHAT? Almost 14 hours to remove and reinstall a prop shaft? This is crazy and I feel really ripped off. I'm going to send the invoice to Hinckley and also to Lasdrop with a letter outlining my displeasure. For the life of me I can't reason out almost 14 hours at $90.00 an hour for the job either
The entire Lasdrop dripless cost less than $400.00. Now due to a mistake by both Lasdrop and Hinckley it cost me an additional $1,367.25.
I'm a reasonable man but all this sucks big time.
