Dominion Power in Virginia yesterday won a lease of 113,000 acres off the Virginia coast for a wind farm. The concept (it isn't even a plan yet) is for hundreds of wind turbines. Full development, if it happens at all, is five to ten years out although early construction on prototypes is likely to begin sooner.

I've sailed among wind farms off England and dodged oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. I expect that wind turbines will be a greater hazard to cruising sailors than Diamond Shoals or Hatteras weather systems.
