I bent a spreader brace for the upper spreaders (one of the downsides of electric winches) by snagging the upper swivel of a continuous line furler.
My question is whether the rod I bent is in tension, or in compression. (I have an email inquiry in to the builder in Denmark): If it's in tension, I can sail with the bend and straighten it when convenient. If it's in compression, I must replace it ASAP before sailing in any strong winds.
The jumper stays and spreaders stiffen the CF mast and keep it in column. The mast is deck-stepped, free-standing, with jumper stays from the mast base to about 7/8 of the way to the top, where the top-shrouds and forestay intersect. The mast is held up only by the triangle formed by the (aft-angled) top-shrouds and forestay.
(BTW this is why I would never charter or time-share my boat. If someone else did this I'd be much more upset.)
