The tube failed in bending -- what about the spreader?
In Response To: Rigging question for you mechanical engineers ()
When the tube bent two things happened (at least to the spreader) -- it was rotated forward (and maybe "up") a bit. The spreader didn't move, then all the "shortening" would have rotated the rest of that system counter clockwise (at the forward connections).
How are the connections to mast and the strut at the spreader tip?
Was the the other end of the bent strut damaged at all? How are those connections made?

- There shouldn't be much load on that brace under normal conditions
- Looking at the fitting attaching the brace I would say compression and that is a guess.
