It hasn't been important enough in the sailing we do, to invest, install and maintain another electronic. Plus the stuff goes outdated so fast I can't get into it anymore. On the other hand, tablets and smart phones are where I'm at for the boat. Simple, cheap, clean.

We don't sail much at night either and rarely fogged in so, like radar, I haven't felt the need for AIS. But for 10 bucks and no wires, why not? I'll get an app.
