has worked for me---as a reference/substitute/backup. Whatever it lacks in 'features' doesn't really matter to me. If I want to find out water depths, distances, general knowledge to 'get around', I've found it quite adequate. Silly me, I generally prefer paper charts. I always hated even the chart books for the same reason I don't like electronic charting-- it's too hard to get a quick overview. When you zoom out, you lose the detail and the overview is incomplete. If you want to know what a cove, channel looks like within the next mile or maybe a bit more, then most anything is adequate.
Waypoints and such are not what I use. I have been known to place a cursor on an area to steer for to get basic course /speed/ eta info and to help me steer to the 'safe' side of something I'm worried about though.
