It sounds like he had clear priorities, and followed through. I was wondering if he could have pressed on and left his wife to tend to the kids, and brought the boat single-handed to Hawaii. Sounds like he could have, but reading between the lines; that trip was bit trying on the relationship and he chose to keep his wife/family close -- over everything else. I give him credit. Sounds like the rescue crew respected him also.

His dream included his family. Understandable that without them it would've been empty. Must have been a tough decision to scuttle the boat too.
