I watched the press conference. I have to commend Eric for making the decision to abandon and sink the vessel that was the home they shared. He could have sent his wife and kids on ahead, single handed the boat back to Mexico and left the boat there for it's fate to be decided on after they had some time to discuss the future. He could also have realized to his core the jeopardy he placed his family in and wanted no more of it. Then again, he may have had enough of the dream himself. From his posts re Zen it seems aparent his mindset was one that wouldn't allow for tagging and leaving the vessel to be a hazard. One of the rescuers said he talked to Eric on the very first night about what his plans for the boat were once the rescue ship arrived. Eric's first response was he would sink her where they left her. He never wavered from that statement.
In any case I commend him for following through with that decision whatever the reason. He seems very consistent with his beliefs. It will be interesting to read new blog entries to get some first hand incite on what took place. I'm sure there will be more blog posts.
