Define Daysailer; A sailboat with a big cockpit, big mainsail.

For sure they'll be most vulnerable in this type of bad luck story. Remember GYRE? An Ohlson 41 with 4' of cabin deleted? Presto, 12' cockpit.

But it's one of my favorite boat re-designs. And it gets used a lot by the looks. I'd say it exponentially supplies sailing hours/person above a regular boat.

My boat wouldn't do well either with it's long cockpit, but I love it for sailing.

On the other extreme, some boat designs had no cockpit, just a foot well like this 50's Nielsen design influenced by North Sea fishing boats, I think. Beautiful boat to sail as well. You sit on the aft deck, feet in the well. Seas could pour over this regularly with little flooding hazard.

Extreme trade offs, eh?
