These guys need to listen to Don Street

He tries to hammer it home.
Don's been doing this for 60 years. He says to this day, he can't predict how much wind any particular squall will bring.
And my note on the idea of being able to sail around bad weather: Might be true with a tropical cyclone for which you have advance notice, Kind of hard to do with a cold front than comes barreling off the East Coast and is 2,000 miles long. Can't outrun that even at 40 knots.
I've heard rumors that some production cat builders use the rig as a "safety valve." Better to have the rig fall down than have the boat flip over. Seems to have worked in this instance
At least everyone is safe . . . including the helo crew!
Without reading any of the Gunboat posts I'm thinking they were maybe Miami bound for the boat show. Maybe not. The prediction for the next few days is wicked strong southerlies, so maybe they were trying to get a jump on that.
My deja-vu was the Hank & Charlie affair last year in the same area . . . I was not aware of the prior Gunboat safety valve test.
