I always understood that the "safety feature" on a multi was the hatch in the floor...

for that one time it does flip... you have a way out through the hull.

Kinda disagree with you regarding the aspect of an engineered failure... it IS done all the time... usually in the form of a fusable link. In the case of a rig it could be an engineered weak link on the standing rig, with some sort of backup rig when such a failure exists. Bit complicated, but it can be done.
