Dripless Shaft Seals - Heads up
I had a Lasdrop put in 2 years ago
I HATE them
On mine
Without knowing the brand of the seal in question...
Sorry... Still HATE em.
Hate is a bit strong
With so many great upgrades available, replacing such a simple elegant solution as a bronze stuffing box for a dripless,
I had my shaft out last Fall and went back to a traditional stuffing box...
We ahve been very pleased with PSS
I odn't understand how the collar could slide
Agreed that a well tightened screw is
It happens rather easily....
Interesting point on the set screws
A shaft zinc is not a good set collar.
Hagar is absolutely correct. My surveyor
Interesting. Gene warned me about the shaft sliding out, ...
Another Millwright's trick with set-screws.
It might not be ideal
The only downside of the hose clamp is
Only 2 left in stock (more on the way).
One Ruland shaft collar arrives, to solve the problem I didn't know I had!
We won't have any puns on keeping your shaft dry, and the like?
That would be the RutLand model.
To stop shaft slipping
Thanks for the tip Jon
How does one inspect these dripless systems?
Lasdrop said to just look at it once in a while. PYI???

I just look at mine once in a while.
A friend just finished PR to Maine, and their 18 month old shaft seal failed.
I just don't know what I would do.
That would probably do it. You could loss a stuffing box too.
Failure, failure, failure
No failures I know of
When Camper & Nicholsons fitted dripless seals
US Navy uses them on submarines.
