I think people are overly nervous...

... about Maine lobster pots. This year will be our 17th Maine cruise. A typical cruise is 4 or 5 weeks in duration and most of that time we are between Penobscot bay and Roque Island. Yes, we have grabbed pots, and yes we are vigilant. We may have actually wrapped a shaft 4 times??? Once or twice on the spade rudder?

In reality, there is plenty of help if you need it. Lobster men are always very happy when you don't simply cut everything away and have offered to help us. Most of the time, we simply get a "bang" from the pot striking the hull and we are on our way without a major incident...

Also, there seem to be fewer pots than there were 15 and 20 years ago.

Exercise some care, be vigilant and you'll be fine... "That's all I have to say about that.."
