Looking back, the resawing of the Ipe caused the most problems in the quality of my work. That and the fact I don't do much resawing(I'm really not that talented a woodworker and lack some skills) was the biggest drawback. By the time I got through most of the resawing, I was much better at it and tuned my saw along the way. Some skills simply come with experience. But tools- a bigger saw and this type of blade would have produced a better more uniform cut.
I could have jumped that step taking a good friends advice (a very talented furniture builder and designed - he just built himself a banjo that is a piece of art, I can't believe my eyes looking at it) and done the sawing at the local furniture building school. I could use the skills building in wood but that part isn't my passion.
But I'm quite good at making those discrepancies disappear with plane and massive sanders. I'm a maker, a producer, for an end goal (often that has been $)
My forte' in this project(if it works out) is to design and build this cockpit in my shop and eliminate so much painful work that would be required on the boat itself. When the piece is lowered into the boat, that's my personal moment of truth. My banjo, so to speak.
