I good friend of mine that lives on Orcas Island in Washington State is particpating in the Race to Alaska. Port Townsend to Ketchican is about 750 miles +-
Some of you might have heard about this race, quite interesting approach, you must be totally self sufficient, no suppport allowed, all vessels must be powered by humans (rowing) or wind. My good friend will be paddling his SUP the entire length, he is an animal and will probably do it. Reasoning is that winds in June are fairly unreliable and he can average 5 knots for hours on end. He has hit speeds as high as 20 knots while surfing downwind, and expects to be able to ride the reverse eddies when the current is running against him.....
