The wheel will be 50" diameter, 5 spokes, stainless and wood. He really likes wood but also likes thin, minimalist designs so he wants a metal frame for strength. My main concern is joining the metal and wood. He found an adhesive he says will work but I'm not convinced yet that it will be durable over a wide temperature and humidity range.
