Shortly after we moved here a maple came down in the backyard -- the wood looked very much like that. I didn't have much choice but to turn it into firewood.
The one next to it has been leaning a bit more lately and I expect it to come down if we get a heavy wet snowfall later this winter (I'll try not to be standing beneath it).
I now know the whereabouts of a woodworkers group -- one of whom has a portable sawmill. I hope they can make use of the tree when it does come down.
If it comes down heavily, it might take a pecan tree with it -- they can have that too. I would hate to see good hardwood go to waste. Plenty of limbs there for my fireplace.

Oh, and Tom -- I love the trouble you go to to get stuff just right! Christmas will be fit for a museum by the time you're thru with her!
