That's an interesting idea, easier than what he is looking for right now. He wants to machine down 9/16" stainless bar to an X shape and lay in wood to fill in the X. This will give it a wood feel but with the strength of the stainless. I'm not sure how well the wood will stay in with adhesive, it will end up being a 1/4 round strip about 45" long by about 7/32". Maybe if we add some "chicken" screws but they would need to be #4-40 at the biggest.
