We have played around with a spectra stay. Its a nice solution if you are unhooking the stay a lot and bringing it back to the mast.
But our staysails have standard bronze hanks and I worry a little about them chafing the stay on long passages, so we have been putting wire back up when we do passages. The right thing would be to replace the bronze hanks with soft spectra hanks (that's what the racers use) but that job has just never gotten far enough up my to do list to get done.
We do have spectra checkstays permanently mounted and they have held up tremendously well to the UV, and also show no wear where they constantly bounce/rub on the spreades, so no concerns there.
