On my inner stay (45' long) there could be 2" of elongation at 10% of breaking strength. Then you need some amount of length to work with just to get the stayhook in place before you t=start tensionning - I would think the minimum is 3". So, with my spectra stay I would say I need at least 5" of adjustment.
