BN I thought about a tackle first thing. Ruled it out when I thought about getting it tight enough for adequate stay tension. Even if I put 100 lbs into it (w/o back injury!!), 4:1 purchase would just tension the stay to 400#.

Could go to a cascaded system, or lead the end of the 4:1 to a mast winch through turning block, but this really starts to get a lot more complicated than a simple turnbuckle type screw adjuster.
