I see Johnson makes a couple of products that might work. They have a highfield lever, 54-250, but it only has 3" of throw. Rob, I'm guessing that this might not be enough to cover the splice elongation and creep.
But they also make a Handy Lock 46, a 46-500, which has fold out handles and 6" of throw. I'm thinking that this, with an appropriately strong snap shackle on each end would give me a pretty adjustable, quick release tensioner w/o breaking the bank. What do you think about this option? I figure I'll continue to use my runners for final tensioning, as Evans mentioned.
(And Evans, you're right about the Wichard gizmo's. Beautiful, but over a boat buck, not gonna happen for me!!!!! )
